PASMA Training Courses

The Prefabricated Access Supplier and Manufacturers Association (PASMA) promotes the safe use of mobile access tower scaffolding in the UK. PASMA represents the interests of its members, made up of manufacturers, suppliers, specifiers and users and regulates the PASMA Standard Training Scheme, which was established to ensure a uniformly high level of PASMA scaffold training throughout the UK.

PASMA Courses

The objective of each PASMA training course is to provide candidates with the necessary information and procedures for safely erecting, using, inspecting and dismantling mobile access towers. There are a number of PASMA training courses available for working with different types of mobile scaffolding units, as well as other prefabricated units used to work at height.

PASMA Mobile Scaffolding Courses

Common course options include:

• Low Level Access
• Mobile Scaffold Tower & Low-Level Access Combined 
• Working at Height Essentials
• Mobile Scaffold Tower with Cantilevers
• Mobile Scaffold Tower for Stairs
• Mobile Scaffold Tower for Managers

As with all training courses, the PASMA training route you decide to take should be chosen based on the equipment that you work with and have responsibilities for. You are not limited to sitting just one PASMA course, so can sit as many courses as required to fulfil your responsibilities with working at height in your job role.

PASMA Course Content

The content of each PASMA training course is tailored to the type of equipment you are using; however, each course will contain:

• An overview of the related legislation and regulations, including the Work at Height Regulations and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulation
• An understanding of the relevant British and European standards
• Identification of safe working heights and understanding safe working loads
• Codes of practice and manufacturers instruction manuals
• Ground and site conditions, tower stability and tying
• The sequence of erecting and dismantling mobile access towers
• Inspection requirements and records
• Theory and practical tests and assessments

Generally, the only pre-requisites for PASMA courses is that candidates must be able to use the English language to a high standard, as they will need to reference the manufacturers’ instruction manuals throughout the course, and that they should be physically fit enough to do the practical elements of the course. However, some courses, for example, the Mobile Scaffold Tower with Cantilevers course, require that delegates have a pre-existing PASMA qualification.

Successful delegates who complete PASMA courses will be awarded with the PASMA certificate and photocard, which has a range of security features to ensure authenticity, including a holographic image, guilloche design work on the back and UV ink, which can be seen when a UV light is passed over the card. PASMA certification and cards are valid for 5 years from the date of issue. To retain PASMA certification you will need to undertake another PASMA course and resit both the written and practical test(s) for the equipment that you use.
