The unit referencing scheme was updated in April 2017, when the new NRSWA regulations came into force in England, these being The Street Works (Qualifications of Operatives and Supervisors) (England) Regulations 2016. For clarity both the old numerical reference and new alpha-numeric reference are included below. Unit 1 for Supervisors and Operators, became Unit LA under the new referencing system.
The NRSWA Unit 1 (LA) course is suitable for either Operatives or Supervisors who will be working on highways. This Location and Avoidance of Underground Services course can be undertaken as a standalone unit and is a one-day course.
Course training in Unit 1 (LA) may also form part of a more comprehensive operative or supervisor NRSWA training program, which includes other units. Please link to the relevant category below if you need to be trained on more units.
Although there are no pre-requisites to attend this course, some experience of using a Cable Avoidance Tool would be useful before attending the course. Course content will include:
Delegates will undertake practical exercises using the equipment throughout the day and will be observed by the trainer. At the end of the course delegates will need to complete a practical assessment and pass a multiple choice test in order to pass the course.
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a certificate and Street Work ID card which is valid for five years. Delegates will need to either re-take the Unit 1 Location and Avoidance course or complete a New Roads and Street Works Re-assessment training course to renew the qualification.
