First Aid - Trauma and Casualty Care
The Trauma and Casualty Care First Aid category is home to more specialist First Aid courses suitable for those who could potentially have to give emergency treatment to casualties with life threatening conditions.
Basic or Intermediate Course?
- The basic course (BTACC) is for those who have no prior medical knowledge to taking the course.
- The intermediate course (ITACC) builds upon the basic course and further prepares candidates for the most serious medical and trauma challenges they may face.
We would advise that unless candidates have a lot of hands on experience in trauma and casualty care they start with the Basic course and then move on to Intermediate if desired or required.
Basic Trauma and Casualty Care First Aid Course Detail
This is a two-day course which has been created by specialists to ensure that candidates who do not come from a medical background can quickly respond to those who have life threatening injuries until additional support arrives.
The course content has been written by specialists in the field of pre-hospital and critical care medicine and extends beyond the training in the First Aid at Work course.
Intermediate Trauma and Casualty Care Course Detail
This is a three-day course which builds on the BTACC course and can be adapted to meet a specific organisation's specialist needs. This can be done so in terms of the patients themselves i.e. paediatric or pregnant casualties and potential situations that the candidate can find themselves in; for example, mass casualties or civilian disasters.
Both courses have been adopted by organisations such as; emergency services including police, ambulance and fire crews, areas of the Construction industry, COMAH sites and UK Search and Rescue teams.
These First Aid courses include the following elements:
- Crush and suspension trauma
- Managing a trauma situation
- Drowning and immersion
- Managing a pregnant patient
- Mass casualty management
- Head injuries
- Traction splints
- Spinal trauma
- Burns, thermal injuries and electrocution
- Paediatric and small patients
- Transferring a critically ill patient
Course Delivery
Each course is delivered in a classroom environment, available nationwide. Both are approved and accredited by the ATACC faculty and techniques used within have been adopted by numerous UK Emergency Services and Industries.
