The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is a UK based awarding body for the construction industry. By holding a CSCS card, candidates demonstrate that they are both fully competent and safe to work on site as they have completed the necessary assessments to become a CSCS card holder in their respective discipline.
Please note that prior to starting the NVQ, candidates must have completed the CSCS Supervisors test within the past two years.
To renew the Gold CSCS card, candidates must complete a CSCS Supervisors test every five years.
In order to hold a Gold CSCS Card, candidates must complete an NVQ in one or more of the following:
These NVQS are on site assessments, so it is important that candidates are both working in the job role and have a site where their assessor can visit them. Assessors will usually visit a candidate approximately six times over the course of six to nine months and gather evidence for the candidate’s NVQ portfolio.
Once the NVQ has been completed by the candidate, the assessor will create a portfolio of evidence including method statements, witness testimonies and photographs. This will then be internally verified before being sent to the CSCS for final marking. Once the CSCS have confirmed that the candidate has successfully completed the NVQ, they will issue a CSCS Supervisors ‘Gold’ card which is valid for five years.
