Tower Climber and Rescue (MATs)

This course meets the Mast and Tower Group (MATs) framework.

Who Should Attend:

The initial climber and rescue course is designed for first-time climbers. Delegates will be proficient in ladder and open structure climbing and the use of fall arrest systems. They will have the knowledge and practical experience to enable them to rescue a fellow climber, suspended by a fall arrest lanyard, from a structure.

Course Contents:

- Health and safety legislation.
- Risk assessment and method statements.
- PPE selection and usage.
- PPE maintenance and inspection.
- Fall arrest/work positioning lanyards.
- Use of all prevention equipment.
- Use of fixed fall arrest systems.
- Suspension trauma.
- Effective rescue plans.
- Appropriate rescue technique.

Delivery and Assessment:

Classroom based theory and practical climbing and rescue sessions with scenario-based activities.Written and practical assessment to ensure theoretical and practical understanding has been achieved.

Course Requirements:

Delegates must be over 18 yrs, physically fit, able to work at height with previous climbing experience. Delegates will be required to complete a medical declaration.

Equipment Required:

Delegates will need to bring suitable climbing PPE and clothing for seasonal weather conditions. Climbing PPE may be provided upon request.
