Written with guidance from the UK's leading experts on ladder manufacture, maintenance and safety, the Ladder Association scheme addresses all the issues raised by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and, more recently, the Work at Height Regulations 2005. This is a minimum 2.5 hour training course will ensure delegates have the knowledge and instruction to be able to use and select ladders and step ladders legally and safely.
Overview:
Delegates will be taught when it is appropriate to use a stepladder or step stool; guidance on safe
use, storage and potential hazards as well as laws and standards relating stepladders and step
stools
Duration:
Minimum of 2.5 hours.
Who should attend:
For those who are infrequent users of stepladders and step stools in shops, offices, schools and the health sector
Delegates will be competent to:
- Assess and determine when it’s appropriate to use stepladders & step stools
- Correctly locate and safely use stepladders & step stools
- Visually inspect stepladders and step stools for damage before and after use
They will have an understanding of:
- What they need to know about the law and standards relating to stepladders & step stools
- Hazards in the use of stepladders & step stools
- Storage & handling of stepladders and step stools Method
Training Activity:
- Slide led – trainer providing information and asking questions
- A group exercise on Inspections and Hazard Analysis
- An individual questionnaire on safe and effective use of Stepladders and Step Stools
Assessment Process:
There are 4 assessment activities:
1. 15 Multiple Choice Questions
2. Step / Step Stool fault finding
3. Hazard Analysis
4. Carrying, positioning and stepping on to Steps and Step Stools
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Closed toe shoes, with good grip on the sole – no backless or high heel shoes; no socks, stocking or bare feet
- Ideal clothing: would be – No loose tops, jeans / trousers for men and women
Literacy, Fitness & Health:
Delegates must be numerate, literate and have a good command of English. They should be fit and capable of stepping on to small steps, step stools and dome type stools.
Certification:
A Ladder Association certificate and Ladder Card will be issued to successful delegates who complete the theory and practical assessment sessions at the level they attend the course which has a five-year validity period.
