Our Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health delivers a minimum of 12 hours of classroom-based theory and practical instruction and is designed to instruct up to a maximum of 16 delegates. This two-day course is aimed at HR professionals, Mental Health champions and Wellness Managers, providing them with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions and learn about the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers. They will know how to start a supportive conversation, reduce stigma and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Delegates will learn how to recognise and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse. They will learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace. 

Delegates will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions, as this can only be carried out by a health care profession but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person many have a condition and know where they can go to get help. 

This course consists of a training room lecture, DVD presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.

This course is suitable for anyone looking to gain an understanding of mental health, with the aim of being able to provide advice and practical support for others in the workplace. It provides delegates with the resources and knowledge to be able to identify signs of stress and various mental health conditions, with the aim of guiding them towards the correct support and improving their organisation’s mental health culture.

• Defining mental health 
• Understand the stigma surrounding mental health 
• Identify factors that can affect a person's mental health 
• Understand the role of a first aider for mental health 
• Outline the advice that should be provided to a person suffering from a suspected mental health condition 
• Know when to contact emergency services 
• Identify signs of stress and how stress can be managed 
• Effects of alcohol and drug abuse on a person's mental health 
• Demonstrate the application of the first aid action plan for mental health 
• Key factors in providing a positive mental health culture in the workplace 
• How to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace 
• Identify signs and symptoms for the following mental health conditions; depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide, self-harm, bipolar, schizophrenia and PTSD 
• Describe the support and therapy provided by professional healthcare providers for the following mental health conditions; depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide, self-harm, bipolar, schizophrenia and PTSD
