SSSTS (CITB) Refresher - Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme

Overview

Existing Site Supervisors whoalready hold a certificate that is due to expire can sit the SSSTSRefresher course to refresh their knowledge on health, safety, welfare andenvironmental issues, as well as their legal responsibilities to superviseeffectively. Build UK (formerly the United Kingdom Contractors Group - UKCG)recognises the SSSTS course as meeting the required standard for allsupervisors working on their sites.

Who should attend?

Site supervisors or those with supervisoryresponsibilities who currently hold an existing 2 day SSSTS within thescope of renewal requirements would benefit from the SSSTS Refresher course.

Duration

The SSSTS Refresher course lasts 1 day.

Aims and Objectives

The SSSTS Refresher course aims to ensure that all thosegiven supervisory responsibilities understand:

·        Why they are carryingout their identified duties

·        What is expected ofthem and to ensure that they contribute to the safety of the workplace

Outcomes

On successful completion of the SSSTS Refreshercourse, delegates will:

·        Understand theproblems of the industry

·        Have an understandingof how health and safety law is structured and how it applies to supervisors

·        Identify how theirsupervisory role fits in with the management structure in controlling the sitesafely

·        Carry out riskassessments and understand the need for method statements

·        Carry out effectivesite inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings

·        Be able to monitorsite activities effectively

·        Understand theimportance of timely intervention when bad practice is identified.

Delivery

The method of assessment will be by multiple-choicequestions at the end of the SSSTS Refresher course as well as being expected tobe interactive during the course.

Attendance

Delegates MUST bring some form of photographic ID along onthe day of the course. Where identification is not provided, attendance will berefused.
