Audience:
The refresher course is designed for existing SMSTS certificate holders and should be taken every five years to help stay up to date with the latest changes in the industry. Site Managers and Supervisors who do not hold the SMSTS certificate should sit the five-day course instead.
Objectives:
The SMSTS two day refresher course is the perfect way to bring health and safety knowledge up to date. As well as giving a thorough understanding of legislation, the course also covers health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, enabling compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Course Structure:
The course gives practical advice on how to integrate the new legislation into working practices on site. Topics include:

- Review of legislation implemented since qualification
- New guidelines dealing with Risk assessment, Stress in the workplace and training for a safer and better industry
- Consultation between management and employees
- Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 1994
- Fires on construction sites

- Regulation which affect the everyday safe working of a site

Assessment of the Course:
The course material is evaluated by means of a multi-choice assessment paper. Successful completion of the programme results in the award of a "Renewal CITB SMSTS Certificate".
Course Length:
The course consists of 2 lecture days including examinations.
Online Training:
Candidates will require:
- A laptop/tablet with camera and fast internet
- A quiet room to complete the course in
- A form of photo ID

Please note that as of the 1st January 2016, CITB Site Management / Site Supervisor certificates will no longer have a six month grace period and candidates will need to attend a Refresher course before the expiry date of their original certificate.
