Description
The SMSTS Refresher Course (CITB) is intended for those who currently hold a valid (SMSTS) Site Management Safety Training Scheme certificate. The certificate must be renewed every 5 years by attending the SMSTS refresher course. This can only be done after the 5 years has elapsed and must be done within the 6 months period.
Aims
This course is designed to allow delegates to maintain and update their current health and safety knowledge in helping site managers, agents and supervisors to:
- Manage health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions, and within the context of their management or supervisory role
- Develop an understanding of responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare
- Recognise and maintain a safe site whilst keeping work efficient, economical and productive

- CDM Regulations 2007
- Construction Health, Safety and Welfare
- Reporting of Accidents, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences
Overview and changes to the current legislation affecting construction to include:
- Work at Height Regulations 2005
- Control of Substances Hazardous to Health 2002
- Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005
- Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005
- Fire on construction sites including Fire Safety Order 2005
- Construction waste and Site Waste Management Plans
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a CITB accredited certificate which is valid for five years.
Please note that as of the 1st January 2016, CITB Site Management / Site Supervisor certificates will no longer have a six month grace period and candidates will need to attend a Refresher course before the expiry date of their original certificate.
All delegates must bring photographic proof of identification to the course.
