SMSTS Training (CITB) - Site Management Training

Overview

This is 5 Days CITB Course designed for site managers, site agents and persons who are, or due to be, responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff and a workforce. In order to obtain the qualification delegates MUST attend all days of their chosen course.

The SMSTS certificate is valid for 5 years, after which time candidates are required to sit the refresher course.

Training will cover relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.

Delegates under the age of 18 must provide written consent from a parent or guardian to successfully attend.

At the end of the SMSTS successful candidates will be able to: 

• implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them during their daily work
• implement new guidance and industry best practice
• state their duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment

Assessment

At the end of the CITB SMSTS course delegates are required to sit an exam paper consisting of 25 questions, of which 7 are short written answer.  Multiple choice questions are worth 1 mark each and written questions are worth 2 Marks each.   In order to pass the course delegates MUST answer ALL of safety critical questions correctly.  The SMSTS Course pass rate is 80% (26 out of 32)

Delegates must attend all 5 days, in accordance with the SMSTS course programme, to achieve the necessary learning objectives and qualify for the SMSTS certificate.

This certificate will expire after five years. In order to remain qualified certificate holders are required to sit the SMSTS -R Two day to renew their qualification for a further five years.

Who Should Attend?

This 5 day Site Management Safety Training Scheme course is intended for project managers, site managers and site supervisors as well as proprietors of small to medium sized companies. Client-based personnel would also benefit from attending the course.

Suggested Progression

Delegates may wish to continue their professional development by completing the NVQ L-6.

Prerequisites

A good understanding of spoken and written English will be necessary in order to attend and complete the course successfully.
