This is 5 day CITB SMSTS Training course is a 5 day CITB SMSTS training course designed for site managers, site agents and persons who are, or due to be, responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff and a workforce. To obtain the qualification delegates MUST attend all days of their chosen course.
The SMSTS certificate is valid for 5 years, after which time candidates are required to sit the SMSTS refresher course their SMSTS certification.
Training will cover relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction, and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforces.
Delegates under the age of 18 must provide written consent from a parent or guardian to successfully attend.

Assessment
At the end of the CITB SMSTS course delegates are required to sit an exam paper consisting of 25 questions, of which 5 are safety critical and require a short-written answer. Multiple choice questions are worth 1 point each and safety critical questions are worth 1-3 points each. To pass the course delegates MUST answer ALL of safety critical questions correctly.
Delegates must attend all 5 days, in accordance with the SMSTS course programme, to achieve the necessary learning objectives and qualify for the SMSTS certificate.
This certificate will expire after five years. To remain qualified certificate holders are required to sit the SMSTS two-day refresher course to renew their qualification for a further five years.

This 5-day course is intended for project managers, site managers and site supervisors as well as proprietors of small to medium sized companies. Client-based personnel would also benefit from attending the course.
