SA025 - Trenching and Slot Cutting in Utilities

This accreditation assesses a learner’s ability to work effectively in a construction utility environment. Learners will be able to demonstrate safe methods of excavating trenches and slot cutting for installing utility pipes using machines.

Course Aims

• Know the processes, regulations and legislations associated with working safely in trenching and slot cutting for installation of utility pipes Know the procedures, tools, equipment, and materials for excavation for locate and clear blockages in utilities, including excavation and reinstate surfaces on utility network plant
• Know the procedures, tools, equipment and materials for trenching and slot cutting to create trenches for installation of utility pipes
• Be able to carry out safe use of trenching machinery
• Be able to carry trenching and slot cutting to create trenches for installation of utility pipes

Pre-requisite

This accreditation is available to anyone over the age of 16 who is capable of reaching the required standard. There are no barriers that restrict access or progression thereby promoting equal opportunity. It is expected however that learners will have a level of literacy adequate to cope with the assessment.
