This accreditation covers the requirements for core drilling into telecommunications jointing chambers in accordance with industry standards and practices. It provides learners with the skills and knowledge of the hazards and potential risks involved working on the highway ensuring they can core drill into jointing chambers safely. The accreditation tests learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding of dangers associated with these works and the safety precautions required while working on the highway.
Pre-requisites
It is expected that learners will have a level of literacy adequate to cope with both the theory and practical assessments.
This Smart Awards accreditation is based on a pre-requisite that any work on the highway requires appropriate Street Works qualification to be held by an individual working on site, and that this individual is qualified to check that the planned provisions and the statutory requirements of NRSWA are met.
This accreditation does not qualify an individual to enter a confined space. Those individuals who need to enter confined spaces MUST hold appropriate accreditation / qualification to enter confined spaces. Any references made in this material to confined spaces are for information only and to make learners aware of the risks and presence of gases that may also be present in confined spaces.
It is recommended that you achieve SA002 Underground Safety Accreditation and the Safe Working in Civils or equivalent accreditations prior to undertaking this accreditation module.
Learning Objectives
After successfully obtaining this accreditation, the participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of safe methods of core drilling and provides knowledge, understanding of the requirements and dangers of the underground services, tools and working environment. This module is designed so that the theorical learning can be done on a classroom environment and the practical learning and assessment is carried out in a real working environment.
The accreditation will provide learners to:
• Understand the risks associated with core drilling jointing chambers
• You will know the legislative requirements, signing and guarding when carrying out this task.
• Understand the methods of safe dig practices including avoidance of underground services
• Understand the equipment check use for core drilling
• Adopt safe systems of work to carry out the task safely
Certification / Accreditation
Certification will be issued upon successful completion of the course and assessments. This will be valid for 3 years from date of course.
Assessment
This accreditation will be assessed through a theory test and a practical test at the end of the accreditation. The aim of the assessment is to provide learners with the skills and knowledge of the hazards and potential risks involved working on the highway ensuring they can core drill into jointing chambers safely.
Practical Test
The practical assessment is an assessment of the learner demonstrating their learnings and their competencies in a controlled simulated work environment and/ or simulation. The assessment area must be equipped sufficiently that the learner can be assessed in their competencies safely and without anyone.
Grading
Learners will be graded a fail or pass. The final grade will be determined by collective performance in the two assessment tools (theory and practical). Learners are required to pass both the theory and practical tests to achieve an overall pass.
This accreditation assumes that an individual has already completed previous learning related to underground safety, signing, lighting, and guarding and tracking and locating underground services
