Introduction
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, Regulation 4 (2) states: “As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems (defined to include portable electrical equipment) shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger.”Essentially this means that duty holders are required to maintain portable electrical tools in a safe condition. In order to do so, duty holders may appoint a competent person who has been suitably trained or may employ the services of professional contractors.
Who Should Attend?
It is suggested that those companies who use portable electrical appliances should elect to train at least one member of staff to test appliances on a regular basis.
