Paediatric First Aid - 2 Day Course
Course Summary:
The Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid has been accredited by the regulators of England, Wales and Northern Ireland and is part of both the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
This qualification is aimed at those who wish to become a Paediatric First Aider in the workplace, parents and people who work with children in the absence of their parents with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. The course aims to give the candidate knowledge and assess them on their ability to deal with emergency situations, how to
recognise and respond to serious medical conditions and serious injuries.
Pre-requisites: There are no prerequisites for this course
Validity of Award: 36 months.
Length of Course: Minimum of 12 contact hours.

The qualification covers the following topics:
- Understanding the role of the Paediatric First Aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation and act safely and effectively
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is wounded and bleeding
- To know how to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
- Be able to assess an emergency situation and act safely and effectively
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is wounded and bleeding
- To know how to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
Assessment:
This qualification is assessed through practical and oral questioning through the duration the course by the tutor.
Learners must practically demonstrate the application of the correct techniques in all the First Aid areas indicated within the learning outcomes of the unit. At the end of the course, candidates need to complete a 15-multiple choice question paper.
