Aim: To meet the standards set by City & Guilds in line with the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991
Objectives: To provide delegates with the skills and knowledge required to carry out their duties in order to safeguard themselves and others
Who Should Attend: Any operative who carries out work on the highway.
Units:
- Unit 001 Location & Avoidance of Underground Services
- Unit 002 Signing, Lighting & Guarding
- Unit 003 Excavation in the Highway
- Unit 004 Reinstatement & Compaction of Backfill Materials
- Unit 005 Reinstatement of Sub-Base and Base (Road base) in Non-Bituminous Materials
- Unit 006 Reinstatement and Compaction of Cold-Lay Bituminous Materials
- Unit 007 Reinstatement and Compaction of Hot-Lay Bituminous Materials
- Unit 008 Reinstatement of Concrete Slabs
- Unit 009 Reinstatement of Modular surfaces and concrete footways
An SWQR card can be achieved by completing any one of the following 6 groupings:
- Excavation in the road/highway: Units 001, 002, 003
- Excavation, backfill and reinstatement cold lay: Units 001 – 006
- Reinstatement hot & cold lay bituminous materials: Units 001,002, 006 & 007
- Reinstatement of concrete slabs: Units 001, 002 & 008
- Reinstatement of modular surfaces & concrete footways: Units 001, 002 & 009
- Signing, lighting & guarding: Unit 002
- Excavation, backfill and reinstatement cold lay: Units 001 – 006
- Reinstatement hot & cold lay bituminous materials: Units 001,002, 006 & 007
- Reinstatement of concrete slabs: Units 001, 002 & 008
- Reinstatement of modular surfaces & concrete footways: Units 001, 002 & 009
- Signing, lighting & guarding: Unit 002
Be sure that the course that you pick covers the work that you either carry out or intend to carry out.
- General courses are: Units 001 – 006 & 009 for operatives or 001 – 007 & 009
- Unit 008 is generally taken as an addition
- Unit 008 is generally taken as an addition
By the end of the course the delegates will be able to summarise the requirements of the New Roads & Street works Act, select appropriate PPE and tools required for the task in hand.
Training course methods are by group exercises containing continuous oral and practical assessments which are supplemented with video and classroom based tutorials.
Additional Information:
Delegates will be required to provide the following PPE:

- Hi-Vis (long sleeved)
- Gloves
- Ear Defenders
- Waterproof Clothing

Rates include for all certification achieved and for the issue of an SWQR card which is valid for 5 years.
Delegates also have to provide 2 passport photographs (not digital images)
Delegates should inform their trainer if they have any health issues or physical problems that may create difficulties in undertaking elements of their training course.
