This is the only unit that is mandatory for both Operatives and Supervisors when completing a full qualification.
Aim: To provide both Operatives and Supervisors with the skills and knowledge to carry out cable avoidance work in-line with the current NRSW Act in order to safeguard themselves and others.
Course Content: - New Roads & Street Works Act
- HSG47
- Basic principles of location and avoidance of underground services
- Hazard identification and the risks associated with them
- Reading and interpreting site plans
- Practical use of equipment
Knowledge: By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Understand the basic principles of the current NRSW Act & HSG47 standards as prescribed by City & Guilds
- Identify potential risks to themselves and others
- Read and understand site plans
- Operate cable avoidance tools in order to avoid or locate underground apparatus
Course Training Methods: A high proportion of discussion and simulated assessments will be supplemented with video and classroom based tutorials and progress tests.
A practical assessment is carried out using CAT & Genny units in groups of 4 delegates per unit.
Certification:
Upon successful completion delegates will receive City & Guilds unit accreditation by way of a certificate.
Additional Information:
Delegates should inform their trainer if they have any serious health issues, physical problems, special considerations or are taking any medication, which may create difficulties in undertaking elements of this training course.
