This course is aimed at all operatives and supervisors that plan to carry out or monitor excavations and other work on the public highway. The course itself is compact with theory and practical training in readiness for unit assessments towards the end of the course.
This NRSWA Operative or NRSWA Supervisor qualification ensures all work on roads and infrastructure in the United Kingdom is carried out to a safe and high standard and is delivered via a combination of practical assessments, classroom learning along with virtual unit testing.
After successfully completing the course the NRSWA operative or NRSWA supervisor will have the skills to carry out Streetworks to the standards required by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
After successful completion of the course you will get a Streetworks card showing the units you completed and your competence to work on the roads. Your NRSWA card is valid for 5 years.
On completion of the course candidates will be registered with SQA and receive certification. They will also receive a Streetworks register ID card that proves registration on the NRSWA register.

- Location & avoidance of underground apparatus
- Signing, lighting & guarding
- Excavation in the highway
- Reinstatement & compaction of backfill materials
- Reinstatement of non-bituminous sub-base & road-base materials
- Laying practices and reinstatement of cold lay bituminous materials
- Reinstatement of modular surfaces & concrete footways
Successful candidates will receive an accredited certificate and a Street Works Qualification Register ID card.
