This course is aimed at people who require the knowledge and practical skills needed to enable them to safely operate a Hand Held Cut Off Saw.
Course Information
NPORS Abrasive Wheels (N301) Course Content
To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operative
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer's handbook and be familiar with other sources of information available including relevant legislation
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate when using a cutting machine or grinding
- Select suitable types of abrasive wheel relative to the work being undertaken
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area and set up an exclusion zone
- Prepare the machine for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Storage and transport of abrasive wheel and machine
- Storage and transport of cutting/grinding machine
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Assessment
NPORS Theory assessment made up of open questions and multiple choice.
NPORS Practical assessment.
Certification
Traditional NPORS Card
For entrants that wish to apply for the NPORS Traditional Card, there is no requirement to do an NVQ qualification. If the 'HS&E TESTED Logo' is required on the card, entrants must ensure they have attended and passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the two years prior to application for the card.
