Course Summary:

The certificate helps construction managers, supervisors and other members of staff to manage risks effectively by giving them a broad understanding of health and safety issues. In fact, many people use this qualification as a stepping stone to a career in health and safety.

This qualification is accepted by IOSH – the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health – in meeting the academic requirements for Technician membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH). It is also accepted by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) for Associate membership (AIIRSM). The Certificate can also be a useful step towards achieving the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.

Pre-requisites:

There are no pre-requisites to attend this course. However It is advantageous that candidates wishing to obtain the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health & Safety to have a general understanding of Managing Safely in Construction prior to attending the course. So attendance of the IOSH Managing Safely course would be of benefit but it is not essential.

Validity of Award: This qualification does not expire.

Length of Course:

This can be completed in the classroom in up to 12 days plus 1 day for the exam, or a blend of both classroom and private study to suit your individual needs. If you already hold unit NGC1 you can complete a conversion course of 8 days to achieve the award. Following this, the NCC2 project will be completed by the candidate, usually at their own workplace.

Course Information:

The course is made up of the following three units:

- Management of Health and Safety (NGC1)
- Managing and Controlling Hazards In Construction Activities (NCC1)
- Construction Health and Safety Practical Application (NCC2)

The course covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK. It also deals with the identification and control of workplace hazards and the practical way in which to approach them.

Assessment:

Units NGC1 and NCC1 are each assessed by a two-hour written examination. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

Unit NCC2 is assessed by a practical assessment, usually carried out at the candidates own workplace which must be completed within 2 weeks of the examination date for NCC1. The practical assessment is internally assessed by the course provider and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
The course either has new dates in data loading, or is only run as a dedicated or In Company course.
