Who Should Attend:

It will benefit managers, supervisors, safety representatives and representatives of employee safety, who may not specialise in health and safety, but require sound knowledge of best practice in risk management to create safe working practices and a strong health and safety culture. It is also a starting point for those wishing to develop a career in health and safety.

Course Contents:

The NEBOSH national general certificate consists of three units, each separately assessed. Delegates may choose to take the units together or at different times. A certificate will be issued on successful completion of each unit, but delegates are required to pass all three within a five-year period to gain the overall award.

NGC1 – Management of health and safety

Element 1: Foundations in health and safety
Element 2: Health and safety management systems – Plan
Element 3: Health and safety management systems - Do
Element 4: Health and safety management systems – Check
Element 5: Health and safety management systems – Act

NGC2 – Controlling workplace hazards

Element 1: Workplace hazards and risk control
Element 2: Transport hazards and risk control
Element 3: Musculoskeletal hazards and risk control
Element 4: Work equipment hazards and risk control
Element 5: Electrical safety
Element 6: Fire safety
Element 7: Chemical and biological health hazards and risk control
Element 8: Physical and psychological health hazards and risk control

NGC3 – Practical assessment


Assessment:

Delegates must pass the two written papers for NGC1 Unit 1 and NGC2 Unit 2, plus the practical assessment NGC3 Unit 3. The practical assessment is normally carried out at the delegate’s workplace following completion of the course.

Note: NGC1 assessment is common to the NEBOSH fire safety and risk management certificate and the NEBOSH national certificate in construction health and safety.
