Course Overview
The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, also known as the NGC, is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK. The NGC will provide you with a foundation of broad knowledge on key health and safety issues, including HSE legislation, hazards, human factors and risk assessment.
Who should attend?
Many people take the NEBOSH National General Certificate because it gives them the
skills and know-how to fulfil their health and safety responsibilities. For others, it's a first
step towards a life-long career in occupational safety and health. Some take the Certificate because it's what their employer expects, while others simply want to learn something new and interesting that's useful vocationally.
Course structure
The NEBOSH General Certificate course is split into three units, two of which are taught units covering a wide range of health and safety issues ranging from workplace hazards and risk control to fire safety.
The third and final unit is a work-based practical assignment. Each of these units is assessed individually and all are compulsory.
The third unit (GC3) is a practical application of everything learned in NGC1 and GC2, allowing you to demonstrate the understanding gained in the previous two units and requires you to complete two separate activities: a safety inspection of the workplace and a written report detailing your findings.
Duration
12 days
How am I assessed?
Candidates are assessed with written examinations for each of the two taught units. There is also a practical assessment to help you apply your learning at work and add value for your employer.
What next?
For some, the NEBOSH National General Certificate is a first step towards a career as a health and safety professional. For others, it forms part of an important set of qualifications that will bring them success and advancement in whatever field they choose.
