Introduction
The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management qualification is designed to help those with health and safety responsibilities (e.g. managers, supervisors and employee representatives) to meet their responsibilities under fire safety legislation.
Course Duration
The course will be completed over 6 days including the written exam.
Who Should Attend?
This course has been specially designed for those who need to ensure that their organisation meets its responsibilities under fire safety legislation.
This will include:
- managers with a responsibility for fire safety in the workplace
- those working in facilities management
- employee representatives and others
- those persons wishing to start a career in fire safety or occupational safety and health
Pre-requisites for Delegates
Delegates attending the course must have successfully completed either the NEBOSH National General Certificate or at least NGC 1 ‘Management of Health and Safety’ within the last 5 years.
However, candidates can choose to simply complete the Fire Safety and Risk Management units and upon successful completion will achieve a certificate for each unit achieved. It is desirable that these delegates have a reasonable level of knowledge and experience in the field of Health and Safety.
Course Objectives
Delegates will receive detailed training and will be given the opportunity to apply practical knowledge whilst gaining a clearer understanding of:
- Current fire safety legislation and industry best practice
- Principles of fire and explosion
- Causes and prevention of fire
- Roles and responsibilities
Methodology
The course consists of four full study days, a 2 hour written exam, and a practical assessment completed at the candidates own premises. The course delivery is based on a learner centred approach and is therefore highly participative. Delegates are required to be totally committed and will also be required to undertake private study to prepare fully for the examinations.
Delegates will be provided with all course materials including study guidance and appropriate distance learning resources.

- Managing fire safety
- Principles of fire and explosion
- Causes and prevention of fire
- Fire protection in buildings
- Safety of people in the event of a fire
- Fire risk assessment
Certification and Assessment
Successful delegates will be awarded with the nationally recognised qualification. Delegates will be assessed through practical and written examinations set by NEBOSH.

Candidates will require:
- A laptop/computer with webcam, microphone, speakers and fast internet connection
- A quiet room, free from distractions, to complete the course in
