This course is suitable for those in the workplace, or those entering the workforce on the hazards and controls related to manual handling.
Course Objectives:
This is a qualification that prepares a learner to develop knowledge in a subject area. Course Contents:
Understand the reasons for safer manual handling:
- Identify the potential injuries and ill health associated with incorrect manual handling - Outline employers and employees responsibilities relating to manual handling at work - Outline the consequences for non-compliance with health and safety requirements at work
Understand how manual handling risk assessments contribute to improving health and safety:
- Define the terms 'hazard' and 'risk' in the context of manual handling at work - State the steps related to undertaking a manual handling risk assessment - Select appropriate risk controls for common manual handling hazards
Understand the principles, types of equipment and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety:
- Describe safe movement principles associated with manual handling - Select appropriate equipment to be used for manual handling tasks - Outline the requirements for the testing, servicing and examination of manual handling and lifting equipment
Assessment:
This qualification is assessed by multiple choice questions Pre-requisites:
It is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 1 literacy and numeracy or equivalent

Learners should provide at least 1 form of photographic ID. If photo ID is not available, 2 forms of non-photographic ID can be produced.
