Who Should Attend?
This qualification is for learners wishing to apply for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme Green Card to access construction sites in the UK as a non-skilled worker/labourer.
Aim
To provide delegates with knowledge to enable them to pass the online assessment at the end of the programme and gain the qualification.

· Know the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work
o the purpose of risk assessments and method statements
o the legal requirements of risk assessments and method statements
o common causes of work-related fatalities & Injuries
o the implications of not preventing accidents and ill health at work
o the meaning of terminology in relation to health and safety at work
o typical hazards/risks on a construction site
o the importance of reporting accidents and near misses
o typical accident reporting procedures
o who is responsible for making accident reports
· Know the importance of safe manual handling in the workplace
o the reasons for ensuring safe manual handling in the workplace
o potential injuries and ill health that may occur from incorrect manual handling
o the employee’s responsibilities under current legislation and official guidance for:
§ moving and storing materials
§ manual handling
§ mechanical lifting
o the procedures for safe lifting in accordance with official guidance
o the importance of using site safety equipment when handling materials and equipment
o aids available to assist manual handling in the workplace
o how to apply safe work practices, follow procedures and report problems when carrying out safe manual handling in the workplace
