Who Should Attend:
The IOSH Managing Safely course is for supervisors who aim to improve worker morale and reduce the potential for workplace incidents to occur. This leads to increased motivation, productivity and financial gain.
Course Aims:
For delegates to learn techniques to promote a safe and positive work environment for employees, be fully confident in writing risk assessments and know how to react in the event of an incident.
Once completed, delegates will be able to:
- Develop confidence and independence in carrying out 'matrix' risk assessments: i.e. evaluating the likelihood and consequence of 'reasonably forseeable' risks and choosing suitable control measures which weigh 'reasonably practicability' and consider the 'hierarchy of hazard controls'. This method numerically ranks the risks, which makes it easier to prioritise which to reduce first.
- Be fully aware of a wide range of workplace hazards, their causes, effects and how to control them.
- Be aware of key civil law and criminal law legislation regarding workplace safety.
- Know how to evaluate the effectiveness of new and existing health and safety policies.
- Have the skills to develop their own health and safety management system and safe systems of work and make further changes if needed.
- Know how to react, conduct a structured investigation and write a report in the event of an incident.
- Use the 'causal tree' method to identify 'root', 'underlying' and 'immediate' causes of incidents.
- Measure health and safety performance using 'proactive' and 'reactive' indicators, how to calculate 'incidence rates' and how to use these for internal auditing.
Assessment:
- Workplace risk assessment project
- Multiple choice paper exam (60% required to pass)
Certification:
Upon successful completion, delegates will achieve an IOSH accredited certificate.
Duration:
3 Days
Additional Information:
Delegates will be supplied with a copy of the Managing Safely workbook to keep, where delegates can refer back to key information. This will also have risk assessment, incident and investigation templates.
