First Aid at Work - 3 Day Full Qualification Course

Course Overview

It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers provide a safe and healthy environment to work in. If your assessment of first aid needs highlights the need for qualified first aiders, then this level 3 qualification (level 6 in Scotland) will provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel.

This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Course Content Day 1 – Unit 1

Introduction

- What is First Aid ?
- Legislation
- Responsibilities
- Action in an Emergency
- Primary Survey
- Secondary Assessment
- The respiratory system
- Resuscitation and AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
- Disorders of respiration
- Disorders of circulation
- Wounds and bleeding
- Seizures
- Minor burns and scalds
- Foreign objects
- Practical assessments

Course Content Day 2 & 3 – Unit 2

- Bones, joints and muscle injuries
- Head and spinal injuries
- Chest and abdominal injuries
- Specialised burn injuries
- Eyes injuries
- Poisoning
- Anaphylaxis
- Major Illnesses
- Practical and written assessments

Assessment

Continuous practical assessment is carried out by the instructor throughout the day, including a written assessment for unit 2.

Certificates

This qualification lasts for 3 years after which the delegates will need to sit the FAW Re-Qual course. A certificate and card will be issued subject to successful assessment for each delegate. However, it is recommended that during the 3-year period, the delegates attend annual refresher courses.

Pre-Requisites 

Must be a minimum of 14 years of age. There are no formal entry requirements however delegates do need to be physically able to demonstrate CPR techniques & Primary / Secondary Assessments on the floor.
