Course Overview

Many organisations now require First Aid training for their employees as part of their regulations. This course provides the comprehensive set of practical skills needed to become a confident first aider at work, giving delegates both the ability and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies.

The First Aid at Work qualification (FAW) is the highest workplace First Aid qualification you can receive. The course includes scenario training for a several workplace First Aid incidents and provides the delegate with the skills they need to manage and take control of a First Aid accident at work.

Course Content:

In addition to the topics covered on an emergency first aid at work course, this course covers treatment for a variety of injuries and medical conditions.

The course covers the following:
• Understanding the role and responsibilities of the first aider
• Managing an emergency situation
• How to help someone who is:
– unresponsive and breathing
– unresponsive and not breathing, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
– suffering a seizure
– suffering from shock
– suffering from external bleeding
– has suffered a minor injury
– is choking
• How to conduct a secondary survey
• How to administer first aid to a casualty
– with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
– with suspected head and spinal injuries
– with suspected chest injuries
– with burns and scalds (and how to explain the severity of them)
– with an eye injury
– with sudden poisoning
– with anaphylaxis
– with suspected minor injuries

Course Objectives:

By the end of the course learners will be up to date with the latest qualifications, to once again to work as a qualified first aider within their chosen area. They will also confidently know how to handle all the situations as a first aider.

Learners will also have the knowledge and experience to deliver all aspects of first aid including CPR & use of an AED.
