Course Overview
The Safe Control of Operations (SCO) Process and Procedure provides for such a safe system of work on routine and non-routine operations on gas Networks and requires individuals to be registered under SCO.
This course is suitable for all gas industry personnel involved in operational works on the Gas Networks Low Pressure including, but not strictly limited to, persons who are or will become:
- Named Authorising Engineers or Named Competent Persons for Routine Operations only
SCO5 Training and Assessment
This course provides knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
- The legislation and drivers for non-routine operations
- The roles and responsibilities outlined in SCO5
- The deviation and communication process
- The application of routine operations
Certificates
Once the delegate has successfully completed the SCO5 course and assessment, the results will be submitted to the EUSR register and cards will be issued to the delegate in due course.
Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the SCO5 course before the expiry date on your card.

Pre-Requisites
- To be technically competent persons and nominated by their Reviewing Manager
- For Authorising Engineers to be a person, having the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience, to authorise work to be undertaken in a safe and proper manner
- For Competent Person, having the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience to supervise and/or carry out work on site in a safe and proper manner
- All candidates must possess the appropriate skills to perform their role; this includes suitable reading and writing abilities
- All Competent Person candidates must have completed SCO 1 & 2 CP training and all Authorising Engineer candidates must have completed SCO 1 & 2 AE training
