During this 1 day course, learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first-aid situations, including
- Role of a first aider
- Basic hygiene and preventing cross-infection
- The priorities of first aid
- Assessing and managing incidents
- Treatment of an unconscious casualty
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- Shock
- Wounds and bleeding
- Minor injuries including small cuts, grazes, bruises, small splinters etc.
- Minor burns and scalds
- Choking
- Seizures
Assessment Methods
For this qualification, there are :
Practical assessments – observed by the Trainer throughout the course, with the results of each learning outcome recorded on the practical assessment paperwork
There are 4 mandatory and 1 optional practical assessment for this qualification:
- CPR and safe use of an AED
- Choking casualty
- Unconscious casualty
- Wounds, bleeding and shock
- Catastrophic bleeding (optional)
