Emergency First Aid at Work - 1 Day

Who will benefit:

The Health and Safety Regulations 1981 require employers to provide suitable first-aid equipment, facilities and personnel so that immediate assistance can be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. The regulations state that in order to provide first-aid, a person isn’t suitable unless they have undergone;

- The right training and qualifications approved by HSE; and
- Any additional training if required

Course Aims:

The role of this ‘Appointed Person’ includes looking after first-aid equipment and facilities and calling the emergency services when required. They can also provide emergency first-aid cover where a first-aider if absent due to unforeseen circumstances (annual leave does not count). Appointed persons do not need first-aid training, though emergency first-aid courses are available and advisable.

Course Contents:

- The importance of preventing cross-infection
- The need to record incidents and accidents
- Ability to assess the circumstances and situation in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- Administer first aid to a unconscious casualty (including seizure)
- Administer first aid to a choking casualty
- Use of available equipment
- Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (inc. small cuts, grazes and bruises, small splinters and minor burns and scalds)
- Administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Administer first aid to a wounded and bleeding casualty
- Administer first aid to a casualty suffering from shock

Pre-Requisites:

- Literacy and language comprehension are important requirements on all courses.
- Candidates should be of a calm mental attitude to enable clear thinking.
- Any physical impairment or literacy issues should be discussed with the trainer prior to making a booking so we can best accommodate your needs.
