Who Attends:
The Novice/Foundation A62 CPCS Lifting Operations – Crane Supervisor course is designed for workers that already have some construction site experience as a slinger/signaller, or have been in a role of responsibility associated with the movement of loads. This is a comprehensive training course designed to give delegates the knowledge to be able to pass their CPCS A62 tests. A good level of communication, reading and writing in English are required, plus a good base understanding of mathematics is essential.
Course Content:
The course is split into 2 days of training and one day of testing. Testing will occur on either day 3 or 4, depending on the number of delegates on the course. By the end of the course delegates will have the knowledge to be able to design safe lifting plans that are compliant with the law, and take into account all health and safety requirements on site.
Days 1-2:
- Site induction, CPCS explanation and expectations.
- Relevant Health & Safety legislation.
- Responsibilities of the Appointed Person.
- LOLER
- British Standards BS: 7121
- Crane appreciation and stability.
- Explain the duties, responsibilities and limitations of: an Appointed Person, a Crane Supervisor, a Crane Operator, a Crane Co-ordinator, a Slinger, a signaller, a crane erector, and maintenance personnel.
- State requirements of legislation, regulations, and Codes of Practice that relate to all types of lifting duties.
- Explain maintenance, inspection, thorough examination and testing requirements for lifting equipment and accessories.
- State requirements that allow safe site access and egress for typical lifting equipment.
- Explain additional requirements for loads to be lifted from height.
- Crane Stability.
- Calculate slings and angles.
- Control a lift operation with a lifting plan.
- Confirm personnel requirements to meet the lift plan.
- Marking the position of the lifting equipment.
- Different types of cranes, and their uses.
- Practice question papers.
- Appreciation of different types of loads and hazards on site.
- Risk assessments and method statements.
- Procedures for supervising lifts.
- Practical sequence.
Day 3 or Day 4:
- Your CPCS Practical & Theory Tests will either take place on day 3 or on day 4. You will not be required to attend on the day that your tests do not occur.
Training Methods:
The training and assessment is entirely classroom based.
Pre-requisites and additional information:
Delegates MUST have passed their CSCS Supervisors Health, Safety, and Environment Test within the last 2 years (to the date of the actual CPCS tests). Delegates that arrive without the valid CSCS HSE pass will be permitted to attend the training, but will not be permitted to attend the testing, and the full cost of the course, including the tests, will be charged. Additional fees will be charged to re-arrange your tests for an alternative date.
Additional fees apply if CPCS re-tests are required.

8.00am - 4.30pm. Course times will be confirmed in the joining instructions once the course has been booked.
