Who Should Attend?
This five day course is aimed at anyone who is required to plan safe systems of work, using lifting equipment with no, or very little, experience of planning lifting operations using mobile cranes.
If you already hold the CPCS A40 Slinger/Signaller, you will also achieve the CPCS A622 Crane Supervisor Qualification.
Aims and Objectives
The aim of this course is to provide candidates with underpinning knowledge for them to understand the role and responsibility of the Appointed Person.
Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to prepare and implement safe systems of work for lifting operations including writing risk assessments and method statements.
The following topics are covered throughout the course:
- Observe regulations and Codes of Practice
- Follow safe systems of work including method statements
- Take personal responsibility
- Describe different types of cranes and associated terminology
- Understand crane documentation
- Understand crane stability, duty charts and safety devices
- Appreciate tower cranes
- Observe British Standards 7121 Safe Us of Cranes Guidelines sections 1, 2, 3 and 4
- Recognise the role of appointed person
- Plan a lift
Entry requirements
Delegates must have passed the Managers & Professionals Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last two years.
Certification
On successful completion of the theory and practical tests, candidates will be awarded a Red CPCS Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Appointed Person.
