Course Aims:
This two day course aims to provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills to operate and control a medium risk confined space environment.
Who Attends:
The Confined Space Medium Risk Course is for any delegate who must enter confined spaces that are not intended for continuous human occupancy. This could be to carry out work or perform maintenance in a confined space which has limited or restricted means of entry or exit. The course also covers the candidates to understand the entry controller’s duties and responsibilities including, equipment checks and monitoring work teams to ensure correct health & safety procedures are followed.
Course Content:
The Confined Space Medium Risk Course content includes:
- Health and safety overview
- The Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 & Approved Code of Practice
- Identification of risks and their control
- Workplace safety
- Weil’s Disease
- Hazardous atmospheres and gas monitoring
- The risk assessment process
- Operation of safe systems of work
- Use of permit to work control measures
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), pre-use inspection and safe operation (IP rated, intrinsically safe and ATEX approved)
- Fall arrest systems
- Safe entry/exit
- Emergency procedures
- Theoretical and practical training on escape breathing apparatus
- Implement procedures for teams working in confined space
- Control safe entry and exit to the confined space
- Control emergency procedures
- Understand standard protocols for work in confined space
- Understand environmental and health and safety legislation
Knowledge:
By the end of the Confined Space Medium Risk Course the training delegates will have gained sufficient knowledge and understanding to control, monitor, implement procedures, enter, work and exit medium risk confined spaces in a safe and hazard free manner.
Teaching Methods:
The Confined Space Medium Risk Course course has a high proportion of discussions, best practice sharing, syndicate exercises and case studies will be supplemented with both classroom based and practical confined space entry and egress tutorials.
Assessment Methods:
Delegates will be continuously assessed during the Confined Space Medium Risk Course in preparation for both a theoretical and practical assessment. Delegates will need to achieve 65% in the final exam, in order to successfully complete the course.
Qualifications Obtained:
Delegates successfully completing the course will be awarded a City and Guilds (6160-09) Certificate. City and Guilds Level 2 Working in and controlling a Medium Risk Confined Spaces.
Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement is a good understanding of spoken and written English as no additional help can be given during the exam.
