Introduction

This one-day interactive course has been designed for company Directors with the aim of recognising the human and financial implications of health and safety legislation non-compliance.

The course will provide a summary of how to promote a positive organisational culture for health and safety. Workshop exercises throughout the day will give delegates the opportunity to discuss their thoughts about health and safety and their responsibilities in an open forum. The day concludes with delegates preparing an action plan for use when they return to the workplace. This will include a checklist to utilise within their organisations that will help to ensure compliance with legislation.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course delegates will be able to:

- Recognise the moral, economic and legal costs/implications of decisions made in the boardroom that make their business liable.
- Understand the importance of strategic management of risks.
- Appreciate the consequences of failing to manage health and safety effectively
- Understand the importance of competent duty holders cooperating, communicating and
coordinating health and safety throughout the whole project.
- Recognise the need to appoint competent health and safety assistance and the limitations of such an appointment
- Identify the basic tools for introducing a proactive health and safety culture into their organisation

Module 2 - Getting it Right o Managing Health and Safety( POPMAR)

- Outline of the Management Regulations
- Outline of the Work at Height Regulations
- Outline of the COSHH and Occupational Health Regulations
- What Competence Means
- Exercise 1 - Cooperation Communication Coordination in CDM

Module 3 - Plan, Deliver. Monitor and Review, CDM and Duty Holders Roles.
- CDM Part 3 – Turning Pre Construction Information into a Construction Phase Plan and then
into a “Health and Safety File”
- Exercise 2 - Duty Holder’s Responsibilities

Theory Test

Module 4 - Putting people to work safely o Health and Safety is about putting competent people to work to safe systems or methods of work. 

- CDM Part 4 - Conditions on Site. Safety Policy (S O A )
- Safety Leadership Improvement Action Plan
- Exercise 3 - Compliance with Legislation
- Delegates put together an ‘Outline Strategy Plan’ utilising HSG 65

Certification and Assessment 

The method of assessment will be by multiple-choice questions at the end of the course, as well as being expected to be interactive during the course.

Successful delegates will be awarded with a CITB certificate, which is valid for five years.

Entry Requirements
 
To be able to attend the course, delegates will be expected to have either previously completed the DRHS course, or have a working knowledge of relevant H&S legislation. 

For courses from January 2022 you will also be a required to complete a free e-Learning course prior to your start date. All delegates must then submit their certificate prior to starting the course, failure to do so will mean you can’t take the course.
