Asbestos Awareness

Course Overview

The course can be held as a ‘stand-alone’ course or as part of a triple 
certification course. 
A tested and company certificated activity-based course with a syllabus 
covering the requirements of Regulation 10 to the Control of Asbestos 
Regulations

Assessment 

Formative through tutor evaluation and summative theoretical multiplechoice examination. 

Certification

H & K Training Services Limited’s own certification stating; ‘successful 
completion’ or ‘attended’ dependent upon assessment results. 
Validity duration is recommended as three years with a tool-box-talk 
refresher during the second year

Course Content 

Course explanation and aims :

• The properties of asbestos and its effects on health (including its interaction with smoking) 
• The types of products or materials likely to contain asbestos 
• The operations which could result in asbestos exposure 
• The importance of preventive controls to minimize exposure 
• Safe work practices, control measures and protective equipment 
• The purpose, choice, limitations, proper use and maintenance of RPE
• Emergency procedures 
• Hygiene requirements 
• Decontamination procedures 
• Waste handling procedures 
• Medical examination requirements 
• The control limit and the need for air monitoring 
• Films and activities shall be used to reinforce good practice and to highlight malpractice  Theoretical test (multiple choice)
