What do CITB Refresher courses cover?

CITB Refresher courses form part of the Site Safety Plus range of training courses for the construction sector. These have been designed to ensure that all candidates have up to date and relevant information in these areas, which are:

·        Site Supervisor training

·        Site Management training

·        Temporary Works Coordinator training

Not all courses in the CITB range have Refresher options.

CITB SMSTS Refresher

The Refresher option for the full 5 days SMSTS course. This is a 2-day course that covers current legislation, any changes in the past 5 years and how these will impact the candidate’s role.

Typical course content will include:

• Recent changes to legislation surrounding construction, health and safety, welfare and environmental issues.
• Latest HSE Guidance, ACoP updates and HSE initiatives
• An overview of proposed or impending legislation
• Latest accident statistics, costs of accidents, causes, and management responsibilities and methods of prevention.

CITB SSSTS Refresher

The Refresher option for the full 2 days SSSTS course. This is a 1-day course that covers current legislation, any changes in the past 2 years and how these will affect site operations.

Typical course content will include:

• Recent changes to legislation surrounding construction site health, safety and welfare
• Why method statements are a legal requirement and how they work
• How their role fits in with controlling site safety, in a safe manner
• Behavioural safety and occupational health supervision
• Communication on a site

CITB TWCTC Refresher

The CITB TWCTC Refresher is a 1-day course aimed at those who have already passed the full 2-day TWCTC course in the past 5 years. This course ensures that candidates have updated knowledge on relevant legislation and how temporary works operations will be affected.

Typical course content will include:

• The importance of the 4 C’s - Communication, Co-ordination, Co-operation and Competency
• The role of the Temporary Works Coordinator and the roles of others
• Risk assessments and method statements
• Management of the temporary works process as outlined in BS 5975:2019
• Statutory aspects of temporary works, including updates to regulations and guidance.

Online CITB Refresher Courses

COVID-19 caused CITB to take the majority of the training suite online, although both face to face and online classroom options have remained available throughout. The online offering has proven popular even now the COVID crisis has passed, for individuals who struggle to be flexible with their work hours/locations and as such can sit the online classroom courses in timeframes to better suit their working hours.
