During the last couple of years, we have seen the training landscape change dramatically; not so much in the mix of courses delivered, but in the method of delivery. Before the COVID crisis hit the vast majority of courses booked were conventional classroom based courses, but repeated lockdowns have seen the emergence of new delivery platforms. New methods of delivery include; online courses delivered remotely by tutors in virtual classrooms, blended course formats whereby the theory element is completed remotely and the practical element on site, and E-learning programmes where courses are underaken entirely remotely. As we have emerged from the COVID crisis and moved into this 'new' era of working from home being somewhat the new normal, it looks like many of the new platforms and methods introduced as emergency measures will continue as alternatives to conventional face to face training, with the benefits of reduced travel time and greater flexibility.

Health, Safety & Environment
The Health, Safety and Environment page is the most visited page on the BookmyCourse site and the page which attracts most delegate bookings, both for open courses and dedicated courses running on customers’ sites. The three course categories that have attracted by far the most bookings have been, SMSTS and Site Safety Plus, IOSH Managing Safely and NEBOSH General Certificate. We have more locations for Site Management Safety Training (SMSTS and SSSTS), IOSH Courses and NEBOSH Courses than any other training provider in the UK.

SMART Award courses are also very popular at the moment, in particular Overhead Safety courses which are in great demand and as such we have added further dates and availability to our online calendar for these. SMART courses lead to NOPS (Network Operative Passport Scheme) cards, which are essential for engineers working on the Openreach network. Other popular SMART Award courses for the telecoms and construction industries include Underground Safety, Asbestos Awareness and Safe Moving & Handling.

First aid courses will always remain popular, including First aid at Work, and Emergency First Aid, but the most recent 12 months have seen increasing demand for Mental Health First Aid courses.

Bookings demand for CCNSG, and New Roads and Streetworks courses remains high. Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) courses and IEMA courses have also done well. Interest in the IEMA courses and other Environmental Management courses has increased with the current resurgence in ISO 14001 Environmental Management System implementations. The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate course has also proved to be extremely popular.

The Rise of Online Virtual Classroom Course and e-Learning during the COVID Pandemic

Up until March 2020 online virtual classrooms were almost unheard of, especially in sectors where onsite training and hands on training were key to learning. Since the arrival of the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic, online virtual classroom formats are still often the preferred option. Delivered using Zoom or other similar video conferencing platforms, there are now a whole range of courses being delivered in virtual classrooms including the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Site Safety Plus Virtual Classroom courses, NEBOSH, IOSH and many others.

The Online CITB Virtual Classroom Courses are now so popular that we have created a dedicated CITB Online Training section page for them.

Alongside the Virtual Classroom format, e-Learning continues to grow as a popular option for many candidates, and BookMyCourse are now taking bookings for many more e-Learning courses than we did in the past.

Construction Plant

The pick-up in activity in the construction sector has been accompanied by an increased interest in training courses for the Construction Plant Certification Scheme (CPCS). So much so, that we have now developed a dedicated page for Construction Plant Training. CPCS training courses are aimed at managers, supervisors and operatives working with construction plant on sites, including those working with heavy plant equipment and cranes or planning lifting operations.

Scaffolding and Working at Height

A new section page has been created for Scaffolding and Working at Height courses. This section has been created to accommodate the most popular categories of accredited courses related to work at heights and scaffold. The inclusion of dedicated pages for the most popular IPAF, PASMA and CISRS categories makes courses easier to find.

Utilities and Safety Passports

Another new section page has been created for Utilities and Safety Passports courses. This new section page includes detailed categories for the most common safety passport schemes, including CCNSG, EUSR and SPA courses.

Quality & Improvement
Many companies are finding it more difficult to successfully get through Pre-Qualification for tenders and contracts, and not surprisingly, there has been resurgence in the need for formal registration against ISO9001 for quality management, ISO14001 in Environmental Management and ISO45001 for Health and Safety Management. We have noticed this especially within the Construction Sector. As a result, the most popular courses have been awareness courses in these disciplines individually and courses on Integrated Management Systems development, internal auditor courses and Lead auditor courses, especially the 5 day IRCA registered lead auditor courses. Other courses that have done well during the last 12 months have been courses relating to Lean and Six Sigma .

We are also noticing a trend in increased bookings for course related to ISO 27001 & IT Governance.

Human Resources and Training
Within this area of the BookMyCourse site the Trainer Training courses were the most popular including CIEH Professional Trainer courses, ILM endorsed Train the Trainer, First Aid Train the Trainer, and Manual Handling Instructor training. But the most popular course option is the PTLLS Course (Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector), as well as the higher level certificate and diploma level course options, which are CTLLS and DTLSS.

Courses within the Recruitment, Selection and Interviews, Stress Management and Training Needs Analysis categories also remain popular.

IT & Computing
Within IT and Computing the categories that have attracted most bookings are training courses relating to Microsoft products, especially Microsoft Sharepoint and Microsoft Project.

All ISEB categories have done well, with bookings more evident in the Business Systems Development category and especially Business Analysis Essentials courses.

Business and Management
The most popular courses within the Business and Management Section have been Project Management courses, including PRINCE2™ and PMI® (The Project Management Institute) and the Bid and Tender Management courses.

Sales & Marketing
With this area of the site, the Ecommerce and Internet Marketing category has attracted the most bookings, not surprising with the increasing power of web marketing techniques and the need for better understanding of Search Engine Optimisation techniques and of marketing products like Google Adwords and Google Analytics.

The Telephone Skills and Telesales category has also fared well, reflecting the need for training staff in these selling techniques and the requirement to improve customer service.

Finance, Law and Accounting
On the Finance, Law and Accounting page, Credit and Debt Control training courses were the most popular, which is not surprising given the current economic climate, followed by courses within the Markets, Trading & Derivatives category and then by Finance for Non Financial Managers.

Specialised Sectors
Within the specialised sectors, the categories that have performed well have been, Construction & Allied Trades, Electrical and Engineering, especially IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations full courses and update courses and Pharmaceutical courses relating to clinical trials.
