CITB Be FaIR Accreditation Framework
The new CITB framework Be FaIR is tailored towards construction companies and gives a way for employers to develop and embed the core values of Fairness, Inclusion and Respect in their companies (FaIR).
What is Be FaIR?
Be FaIR is the CITB’s latest framework, introduced in 2019 to develop fairness, inclusion and respect in companies in the construction sector. These values, nicknamed FIR, help to promote diversity, support local labour initiatives, monitor the workforce and increase productivity.
The FIR framework is made up of 5 modules that cover all the protected characteristics listed in the Equality Act 2010 as well as construction and role focused content. These are:
1. Commitment
2. Policies and procedures
3. Employment
4. Site environment
5. Supply chain
Not all modules are relevant to every company; the Supply Chain module (5) is only relevant for construction companies that actually engage with the supply chain in some form.
Companies who work to embed FIR in their company can look closely at their procedures to ensure they are compliant with the legal requirements surrounding equality, diversity and human rights in the workplace.
CITB Accreditation
Construction companies choosing to take up the Be FaIR framework can become CITB accredited, which gives assurance to contractors, employees and partners that you are practicing FIR on an ongoing basis to current standards. Accreditation lasts for 3 years.
UK property maintenance company PPM are the first to be accredited under the most recent version of the Be FaIR framework. They received an outstanding report from their assessment and are proud to ensure fairness and inclusion is understood and embraced throughout the company.
