Choosing the right CCNSG course
Courses covered under the “Safety Passport” scheme (run by the Client/Contractor National Safety Group (CCNSG)) are administered by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) and aim to train both site and contractors’ personnel in the engineering industry to safe working practices and basic health and safety knowledge.
There are three course options under the Safety Passport Scheme; these are:
•
The National Course – 2-day course covering basic site safety. Successful candidates will achieve the CCNSG Safety Passport.
•
The CCNSG Leading a Team Safely Course – 1-day course covering leading a small team safely, suitable for those in supervisory roles. Candidates must already hold a current CCNSG Safety Passport. Successful candidates will receive the CCNSG Leading a Team Safely card.
Which CCNSG Course is Most Suitable?
It is relatively simple to determine which CCNSG course to book onto, as you will not be eligible for either a Refresher course or the Leading a Team Safely course unless you already hold a valid Safety Passport, which you can only achieve by successfully completing the 2-day National Course.
Those who do not hold any type of Safety Passport will need to apply for and complete the National Course. This is tested via a multiple-choice paper at the end of the course.
Those who need to renew their Safety Passport will need to sit a Refresher Course. Please note that this course will need to be completed within 3 months of the expiry date on the Safety Passport; if this limit is exceeded, then candidates will need to resit the full National Course.
Delegates who hold a supervisory role in the workplace can apply for the Leading a Team Safely course as long as they hold a current Safety Passport. This course gives additional training on leading a small team safely, communication skills and safe outcomes. The resulting Leading a Team Safely card is valid for 3 year and like the Safety Passport, must be renewed within three months of expiry.
Why Choose a CCNSG Course?
There are a number of reasons to complete a CCNSG course:
The CCNSG safety passport is the agreed site safety training qualification needed for access to process plant sites in the UK. Many companies insist on personnel holding this qualification before allowing access.
Safety Passport holders will have the knowledge in which to lower risk on site to themselves and those around them
Supervisors who complete the Leading a Team Safely (L.A.T.S) course will have further knowledge and training in how to ensure the safety of team members on site at all times
Accident rates will be reduced as well as incident related costs
