An in depth look at SMART Award courses

SMART Awards is a National Accrediting Body that has been delivering qualifications and training to the telecoms and utility sectors for nearly 10 years. Since its inception, the number of training courses on offer has grown rapidly. The most popular tend to be those for Overhead Safety (such as Awareness and Refresher courses), as well as safe moving and handling.

What are the SMART Awards?

SMART Awards operate training courses to a range of industries, primarily telecommunications as well as utilities, construction and digital. The telecoms industry has chosen the SMART Awards as their “awarding body of choice”. 

The training courses available differ per industry but all are delivered via a network of approved providers. 

A lot of SMART Award courses are tailored to the telecoms and construction industries, and those who pass their chosen course(s) successfully will receive the NOPS (Network Operative Passport Scheme) Card. This card is a single point of access for all the engineer in question’s accreditations.

SMART Awards Courses Available

Current demand for SMART Award courses is focused largely on Overhead Safety, of which 3 courses meet this specific need: 
•    SA001 - Overhead Safety 
•    SA001A - Overhead Safety Awareness 
•    SA001R - Overhead Safety Refresher

In addition, there are courses dedicated to working underground safely, moving and handling and using related equipment. These include:
